Cenote Ik-kil

Another great place we visited for the first time was Ik-kil a beautiful clear water cenote, a cenote is an underwater sinkhole.  We've been to other cenotes but none like this one and like all other ones it does get crowded.  In an attempt to avoid the big crowds we drove there early in the morning and it wasn't too crowded.

Sign from the road (kinda bad pic but here it is anyways)
Entrance, the ticket booth is to the left

There's complimentary showers and also lockers but those are available for like $3.  We didn't need a locker since we went prepared to dive into the crystal clear water but we did walk around the whole place and it is gorgeous.

Entrance to the staircase down to the cenote
The staircase runs long as it curves around the water, the steps are extremely wet.  There are a couple of lookouts where the water view gets better and better.  We stoped and took pictures in almost all of them.  The whole way down is pretty humid but it builds up the anticipation of the refreshing water.

Once we got to the water we dived right in and the water is pretty cold.  After a while it started getting very crowded but its funny because it got crowded then empty then crowded again and empty again,  I guess the tour buses didn't last long there -another great reason why renting a car is better than taking a tour-
I love love love this place!  The whole place is a lot bigger than we anticipated.
